Description
As the piece reaches toward the center, the triangular grid transitions into a play between solid and void forms, referencing the building’s location at the heart of the city. The structure becomes increasingly three-dimensional as it ascends, allowing light and shadow to interact with its surface. This creates a changing visual experience for pedestrians passing by, with the piece appearing to shift and transform throughout the day.
The material finish is both a nod to the nearby Soldiers and Sailors Monument and a reflection of the building’s contemporary finishes. Brass metallic tones were selected to capture the light and evoke a sense of timelessness, symbolizing both the historical significance of the area and the revitalization brought by the new development. The design also draws subtle connections to the “art deco” aesthetic seen in iconic local buildings such as the Circle Tower and the Indiana State Library, further embedding it within the city’s architectural narrative.
By incorporating these elements, Tessellated Filigree becomes more than just a visual installation—it serves as a commentary on the uniqueness of Indianapolis, merging past and present through art. The work is designed to be a piece of public art that honors the city’s history while offering something fresh and innovative for future generations to enjoy.
